Earth's 23.5° axial tilt is the reason we have seasons and changing day lengths. As Earth orbits the sun, different hemispheres tilt toward or away from the sun, directly controlling how long the sun is above the horizon.
Day length is the total duration of daylight at your location—from sunrise to sunset. It changes daily throughout the year due to Earth's axial tilt and orbital position. Day length is shortest at winter solstice and longest at summer solstice.
Day length varies across India (8-14 hours annually). Northern India experiences more extreme variation (8 hours in December, 14+ hours in June). Southern India has less variation (10-12 hours year-round) due to proximity to equator.
This is called "civil twilight" or the "civil dawn." It's the period when the sun is below the horizon but its light brightens the sky. Artificial lighting is no longer required to move about safely.
A day is exactly 24 hours of Earth's rotation. However, "day length" commonly refers to daylight hours (sunrise to sunset), which vary from 0-24 hours depending on latitude and season.
